Do I need any vaccinations for a trip to Galapagos?
The following is a general guideline for vaccinations when traveling to Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands for a short stay. If you plan to explore more remote areas of Ecuador or other parts of South America, we recommend seeking more specific medical advice.
If you are arriving in Ecuador from a country where yellow fever is present, you are required to have a yellow fever vaccination. Additionally, starting May 12, 2025, travelers must present an International Certificate of Vaccination against Yellow Fever if they meet any of the following conditions:
Are nationals or residents of Peru, Colombia, Bolivia, or Brazil, or
Have spent more than 10 days in any of these countries before arriving in Ecuador, regardless of nationality.
Please note that the vaccine must be administered at least 10 days before your arrival in Ecuador, and one dose provides lifelong protection. This new measure is a response to recent outbreaks in the region and follows international health recommendations to help prevent the spread of yellow fever in Ecuador.
Other recommended vaccinations, depending on the region you travel to, are: Hepatitis A, Typhoid Fever, Tetanus (if not up to date) and other routine vaccines that you may not have had.
